In 1987, a radioactive contamination accident occurred in Goiânia after an unsecured radiotherapy source was discovered at an abandoned hospital site. The material was handled by multiple people, leading to widespread exposure. Around 112,000 individuals were examined for contamination, with 249 confirmed cases and four people sadly passed away.
