In a rematch of the 2023 Sweet 16, Xavier and Texas will battle Wednesday night in UD Arena for the right to go to Milwaukee.

Xavier erased a 13-point deficit in its biggest comeback win this season to beat Texas and advance to play Illinois on Friday night in a Midwest Region game at Milwaukee.

Xavier overcame a 13-point deficit to beat Texas 86-80 in the First Four at Dayton. The Musketeers will move on to face No. 6 seed Illinois.

The crowd reached a crescendo when 7-foot, 270-pound reserve center John Hugley IV gave Xavier its first lead, 75-74, of the second half with a 3-pointer with 5 minutes, 7 seconds left in the game. Texas tied the game at 78-78 on a layup by Jayson Kent at the 2:53 mark, but the Longhorns wouldn’t make another shot from the field.

The Texas Longhorns fell short of their NCAA tournament ambitions in the First Four. Xavier took the win, 80-86.
