The largely peaceful protests during the "No Kings Day" demonstration in downtown Los Angeles took an intense turn in the afternoon. Police ordered the crowd to disperse at about 4:15 p.m. PDT near Alameda Street and Temple Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Division.
Roberto Reveles, a prominent Latino civil rights leader, spoke to the crowd about the stateās past with racism and immigration enforcement. His organization, Somos America, led one of the largest civil rights marches in the stateās history and won a lawsuit against then-Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for racial profiling.
