Congressman Gerry Connolly of Virginia is stepping down as the top Democrat on the powerful House Oversight Committee and won’t be seeking reelection next year.

Gerry Connolly said he will not seek reelection and will step back from his role on the House Oversight Committee after learning his cancer has returned.

U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly said Monday that his health has pushed him to not seek re-election next year and he will "soon" step back as top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.
