SEPTA is touting a 33% decrease in serious crimes across the transit network. The chief of SEPTA Transit Police says he believes it is directly affected by an increase in the number of officers and a dedicated effort to improve the rider experience.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia community gathered on Tuesday night to bring awareness to pedestrian safety in Queen Village and across this city. The meeting comes after two fatalities within a crosswalk at Washington Avenue and Front Street.

A SEPTA bus and two cars were involved in a crash in King of Prussia, PA, resulting in three hospitalizations.

"Jackie Pettyjohn was a trailblazer for female train engineers. SEPTA is grateful for her 40 years of service, and we wish her all the best in her retirement," the transit agency wrote in a statement to CBS News Philadelphia on Saturday.

Relying on consultants can be a penny-wise and pound-foolish way for SEPTA to operate, and reflects a lack of in-house capacity to get these projects done.

Officials have not publicly discussed plans to mitigate the potentially treacherous conditions. Three to six inches of snow are predicted as of Friday night.

The transit agency has added more people on its police force and worked to keep people from using their vehicles as a home.
