Monty won the prize for Top Dog in the Country on Tuesday, Feb. 11 in New York City's Madison Square Garden after coming close twice before. His win made history. Never before had a Giant Schnauzer won the title of Westminster’s Best in Show.

Monty, a Giant Schnauzer residing in Chaplin, Connecticut, won best in show at the 149th Annual Westminster Dog Show in New York City on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

This time, the giant schnauzer went the full Monty. After coming close in the last two years, Monty the giant schnauzer won the top prize at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show Tuesday night, leaving handler and co-owner Katie Bernardin almost too emotional to speak.

Five-year-old Monty, winner of the Working Group three straight years, was named Best in Show at the 149th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in New York on Tuesday.

Monty, a regal giant schnauzer with a dramatic beard and a winning way about him, was awarded best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday night, defeating a tough crowd of canine competitors that included an extremely silky Shih Tzu named Comet and a rugged German shepherd named Mercedes.
