The Howe fire was first reported at about 6:20 p.m. Monday near Torrey Canyon and East Guiberson roads, south of the river. Mild winds were expected to send smoke to the east, county officials said.

The Howe Ridge fire now stretches across 10,323 acres. The perimeter mostly grew to the southwest between Lake McDonald and Christensen Meadows toward McGee Meadow, and to the north.

A building caught fire Tuesday morning in the Arden-Arcade of Sacramento County. Fire crews were dispatched around 5:15 a.m. to a property on Howe Avenue near the intersection of Enterprise Drive.
