Breanna Stewart scored 25 points and Natasha Cloud added 22 to help the New York Liberty beat the Las Vegas Aces in their 2025 WNBA season opener Saturday.
Two seasons after forming a superteam, anchored by Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones, the Liberty won the franchise’s first WNBA title in 2024. The hope is the WNBA Finals trophy is the first of many that will fill the team’s trophy case.
The 6-4 superstar had the honor of throwing the ceremonial first pitch for Sunday’s Subway Series rubber match at Yankee Stadium. Stewart, a right-hander with the same height and similar frame as Sunday’s Yankee starter Max Fried, used a short leg kick and delivered to catcher J.C. Escarra.
