As part of a 15-person round of layoffs at Spotify, Claire McNear and Jonathan Kermah of The Ringer were let go this week.

The cuts affected 5% of the employees in those units. However, Spotify expects to add jobs to bolster its video content. No podcasts were cancelled as a result of the layoff, Variety reports.

And that is no coincidence. Spotify has implemented cost reductions in 2023 and 2024, including layoffs and the elimination of loss-making podcast contracts. That leaner structure is now paying off.
