Virat Kohli has become the third batsman to reach the 14,000-run mark in ODI cricket, after Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) and Kumar Sangakkara (14,234). He also became the quickest to achieve the milestone as he reached the figure in 287 innings, which is 63 lesser than Sachin Tendulkar (350 innings) and 91 lesser than Kumar Sangakkara (378 innings).

Virat Kohli shattered a huge record of his idol Sachin Tendulkar during the India vs Pakistan Champions Trophy 2025 clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Kohli hit a half-century in India's tournament opener against Bangladesh.

During the match, Virat Kohli surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin for taking most catches by an Indian fielder (non wicket-keeper) in ODI cricket. Since making his debut in 2008, Kohli has taken 158 catches in ODIs for India, breaking Azharuddin’s record of 156 catches.

The 36-year-old Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar (350 innings), by achieving the feat in only 287 innings. Kohli got to the landmark when he reached 15 runs in the chase against Pakistan.

Kohli, who made his debut for India back in 2008 against Sri Lanka, becomes only the third batter in ODI history to do so after greats of the game Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. The veteran batter crossed the milestone in his 298th ODI for India, and has 50 hundreds in the format to go with 73 half-centuries.
