The afternoon rain caused problems in particular in the west Chicago suburb of Elmhurst. Some drivers tried their luck in high water, while other roadways were impassable. The area is prone to flooding, but the flooding it experienced was serious.

Footage from residents showed heavy flooding on Harlem Avenue in Summit and on Drake Avenue in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood. Video from a viewer in Darien showed heavy rainfall and flooded streets in the area. The flooding prompted several roadway closures across parts of the Chicago area.

Flood Watch issued for most of Chicagoland until 7 p.m. Saturday. Heavy rain is possible tonight and tomorrow. 3:18 p.m. - Flood Warning issued for DuPage, Cook Counties until 5:30 p.m.Ground delays issued at O'Hare, Midway airports due to storms. Average delay is 75 minutes, according to the FAA.
